I have an 80 F250 that is about 50% '97 doors, box, rear axle, etc., I was pulled over and put through a "mandatory Inspection", this is the RCMP's new line meaning, "you're trucks' been condemned", the problem is the back of the cab from the drivers corner to under the back slider, the frame mount is sound but the under the corner and down the back there is cracks, they are pretty well just ugly except the cracks into the cab which are a problem because of exhaust. What I need to know is whether the back section of a 87-96 would fit if I clipped it off as there are lots of that series that are in decent shape whereas the 80-86's up here are non- existent. It is my work truck that I have lots invested in and is set up perfectly for my needs so I am hesitant to change.
Haven't got a digital camera, but there's 2 that run a couple inches apart real jagged to about 2/3 across the back of the cab, one just at the base and the other is about 3" up, the corner is sound about 6"around the mount, you can barely move it with a 5 foot breaker bar but all around the corner is spider webbed, I think from a previous accident (I've had it for 11 years so it was a while ago.)
If you are talking about the sheet metal, the '87-up should line up, though the steel will probably be thinner. Could you just weld up any cracks? Sheet metal is really easy to get full penetration and get a really strong connection.
I'm having kind of a hard time picturing exactly where these cracks are.
Another thought, could you take a pic off the web, open it with a paint program, and draw on it what you're dealing with if you can't get pics of your truck?
Never heard of Cracks in Cab Sheet metal, unless it's been roller or something drastic.
Around here, "condemned" Literally means you lose it on the spot to impound....
"find another way home,......Have a nice day".
