i keep forgetting to measure the height of the old intake. I still think i can get that air gap to fit under there. I hope so anyway. The dyno on edelbrocks website with that intake made 400hp with edelbrock everything else (cam, heads, carb) and since Ill probably have a more cam, a better carb, and some pretty good flowing heads (not a big fan of edelbrock besides intakes) I'm hoping to get around 450 out of this engine. I don't want to go too high because i've heard 351w blocks do not last long after 550hp. Some people have their 351w drag car putting out close to 700hp but they don't give many details. They probably have girdles on 69 blocks. Isn't there a way to have the block hardened by heating it up to a pretty extreme temperature?

I think if you're using the GT40p heads, you won't reach the 450hp more than likely. Going on the figures of 2hp per cfm of headflow, the p head supposedly flows 196 cfm at .500 lift. With that 196cfm x 2hp per = 392HP (flywheel). There are A LOT of variables that decide on whether your motor will make 2hp per cfm though. Roughly, that seems to be an average. It ranges from 1.8hp to up into the 2's for more efficent race engines.

Our little street 306 put out ~1.8 hp per cfm of flow. Because the Windsor Jr's are supposed to flow 195 cfm at .600 lift. So when I was just figuring these numbers, you could imagine I was a little disspointed. The HP is what it is though.

You won't have any trouble on a '70's 351 block. And BTW, a girdle won't do anything except hold the parts together when the block splits. Main studs will help though.

I'm thinking about reusing my old intake and attaching another snorkel to it to make a dual snorkel. That way I can save a little money and have a little fun making something cool.
