Hi guys..I am a newbie to this site and a newbie to the diesel world..I am an 80 yr old dad trying to help his son with his 1994 f250 7.3 turbo problem..runs great on the level..Cruises 65 no problem..We have an 8% grade coming from town and half way up it starts cutting out and sounds like a jake brake under the hood and loses power..once over the top it clears out and runs fine again..I sure could use some ideas on this problem..I just changed the fuel filters but no help...I have been wrenching on cars all my life but no diesels..I appreciate any help on what this could be..Thanks in advance...
You have wandered into the wrong forum, this is for 1999+ 7.3 PS diesels. The forum you want would be the next one or two down on the list (depending if it is a 1994.5+ or not). You will probably get more relevant help there. The basic block is the same, but there a re a lot of other differences between the different variations of this great engine. May a mod can move this or you can just start a new thread in the right forum.
Don't get me wrong, we may be able to help some, but you will get a lot more help in there.
On to your problem, it could be a number of different things, even if it just related to fuel. it sounds like you only have problems on a grade, does it do this no matter what the fill level of the tank is?
Does sound like a fuel pressure problem. Does anyone know if the OBS has the intank fuel screens? I would think a pressure gauge would tell a lot here.
does the truck have a powerstroke engine, or an IDI engine in it?
easy way to tell is the powerstroke has a fuel filter on top of the engine,
IDI has an injector pump there.
knowing what engine you have will help us get you to the proper forum.
