1994 7.3 IDI turbo fuel system problem
All,
I'm a first time user and this is my second attempt to post this question.
I have a 1994 7.3 IDI turbo diesel.
It stops drawing fuel on both tanks with 1/4 of a tank left in either tank...and it's getting progressively worse on the front tank.
Could it be a strainer inside the tank? Air leak in the lines? Low pressure pump failure? Fuel Shut off solenoid? Has anyone heard of this particular problem before?
I'm relatively new to the diesel world so if anyone could point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

You might have better luck posting this question in the IDI forum here:

I can's say for sure, but it sounds to me like you have a cracked fuel pickup tube in your tank (tanks). They crack and then suck air when the fuel level in the tank goes below the level of the crack. If it runs fine on the tow 3/4 of the tank and only has an issue when it drops below 1/4 I would bet that this is your issue. Also, as a side not, if you decide to replace these, do yourself a favor and just pull the bed off the truck. Lots easier than fighting both tanks onto the ground. A couple wiring connectors, 6 bolts and two guys can lift the bed right off the frame revealing everything you need. Easy peasy.
Good luck with your issue.
