Ok I was able to take the t-stat out when i got home tonight. I found 2 major problems!

1) Obviously broken in 2 pieces!
2) Made in china POS!

I'm going to replace the t-stat maybe tomorrow and hopefully that works and solves my problem.

Never said I needed a sender, only that I could try replacing it. It's $43 from Ford, I'm starting with the less expensive things first.

was that t-stat installed backwards???
the "bulb" is supposed to be in the engine, not the cap.

I'm picturing it now; when he reefed down the t-stat housing bolts, it obviously didn't occur to him that it was taking excessive effort, and he just took the knucle-dragger approach and kept cranking. As the housing seated, it pushed the protruding wrong end of the t-stat downward until it eventually gave way. Also explains why he needed the pound of RTV. Wow. Just wow.

Is that a reference to the truck, or the breeding?...

Well I got the new t-stat and gasket installed the right way, topped off the coolant, and took it for a nice long ride today. Did some back country roads and some interstate cruising at 80! I watched the guage and it never went above the N, even on the one mile hill to get home!! So sender and sensor are both fine and functioning properly!! Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys!! I did the oil change as well today! Only problem is that I have to replace the hose clamp on the t-stat hose end of the upper radiator hose! New cap also held good pressure.
