2001 Excursion. I was wanting information on how to wire an aftermarket amp and sub-woofer in my excursion. The amp is a kenwood 1800 watt. The sub is a 15" JBL in a box. I know how to wire the amp to the sub. I was going to put it all in the back next to the battery. I need information on how to wire it to the battery. And where else I need to wire it like the stereo and elsewhere. I have an aftermarket stereo.
Not to be preachy but a battery inside your ex is a horribly bad idea. But if you must do it be sure to mount it in a manner that it does not become an deadly projectile spewing acid in the event of an accident.
If you have not already bought a amp install kit make sure to buy one with 100% copper wire and not copper coated aluminum wire. ( you can use the less expensive aluminum coated wire but need to factor in the reduced current carry capibilities when sizing the power and ground wire )
Just eyeballing that amp, 3x30 amp fuses and guessing you will mount it under the second row seat and run the wire from the battery along the frame rail and then through a properly properly grommeted hole into the cab, I'd guess 10 feet, so a 4 gauge wire should suffice. Be sure to use a 100 amp
Inline fuse by the battery.
