Can anyone tell me ALL the wires I will need to install a minor system into my '65 pickup. It has no wires what so ever for a stereo so i'm going from scratch. I'm putting in a pioneer cd player, two pioneer 6x9's, two pioneer 5-1/2", and tweeters, and one 8" sub. Also, what size amp will be good enough for just the one sub? Thanks!
For the HU you will need:
1. Power wire (red, connect with a power source)
2. Memory wire (yellow, connect with battery)
3. Ground wire (black, connect to metal)
4. Remote wire (blue, goes from HU to amp)
5. Illumination wire (tap into your lights)
6. RCA cables (goes from HU to amp)
For the amp you will need:
1. Power wire (red, connects from battery to amp, use 8awg wire with inline fuse)
2. Ground wire (black, connects from amp to metal, use 8awg wire no longer than 3ft.)
3. Remote turn on wire (blue, connects to remote wire on HU)
4. RCA cables (goes from HU to amp)
If your does not have RCA preouts then you will need an in-line converter instead of RCA cables. As far as amp selection, send me the brand and specs for your sub and I will recommend a good amp. What is your budget?
Hey john,
Sorry it took me a while to respond, i've been away from my comp. Thanks for the info! That'll help me out a bunch. Where can I get that at? Can I get most of it at like wal-mart or go to a audio specialist? As for my sub... not real sure. It will most likely just be a regular pioneer 8". Nothing fancy. I'm not trying to blow away the competition here .Thanks again for the info!
i would look into a good 4 channel amp and run the 6x9"s and 8" sub off that. id say one of them new jensens would work fine. as for the wiring, the cd player should come with a little harness of its own, like john said go by that. use a good 18 guage wire to make all the connections u can get the wire at either wal-mart of radioshack. make sure u use good connectors and electric tape or use heat shrink tubing to seal out water.
if u would get an external amp look into a wiring kit they sell them at wa-mart, it'll come with the power wire with an inline fuse, ground wire and remote lead (the light blue wire) and a set of RCA cables. if ur headunit doesnt come with RCA cable outputs one of those inline converters will work but the sound guality isnt the greatest.
