96 F150. This is not normal rust. The steel on certain parts is swelling (not just where 2 surfaces come together) and it looks like it is delaminating. Even the radius arms are doing this. I do live in an area where they use a lot of salt but this is ridiculous. Anyone else seen this?
PS: a couple months ago I had to patch my oil pan as it did the same thing.
I have rust like this here in Missouri too. But usually just on the undercarriage parts, not the body. Usually if I have to replace something underneath and I have the opportunity to have the control arm out for example, I powdercoat that part. Lasts a lot longer. No matter what vehicle it is.
Reminds me of a story my friend told me. His daughter moved from the midwest rust belt to Arizona. She took her car to a quick lube place. The guy doing the oil change came into the waiting room and told her there was something really wrong with her car. He took her to the shop and showed her the underside of her car. She laughed and told him thats how all the Illinois cars looked. He was dumb founded!
BAHAHA! It is so true too! I know when I rebuild Big Red, her whole frame is going to a shop to be powdercoated. Lol. I don't want to deal with having rust on her anywhere. Now some cars seem to handle better than than others. 94 Geo Prizm for starters....took 2 weeks for the sides underneath the back doors to crumble off in rust. Its bad. xD
