I know the Dana 50 (like all EXs came with) and the Dana 60 share the same covers and some other parts, if they share the same gear sets that looks like a great deal for someone looking to get more from a gasser.

Yup. I know there are a lot of us wishing that they were 4.10s
Yes, any tire taller than our stock 265/75R16s at 31.5" tall will effectively reduce the gear ratio (make the ratio a lower numerical value) and therefore reduce the performance and pulling power of the truck. So as you upgrade to taller tires and want to maintain (or increase) performance and towing grunt deeper (numerically higher) gears are needed to counter the big tires.
In my case the stock combo of 31.5" tires and 3.73 gears just wasn't very much fun while towing our heavy 9500lb TT, so I upgrade to 4.88 gears and the V-10 EX felt like a locomotive it pulled so good. Then I later upgraded to taller 35.28" tires which effectively reduced the gear ratio to 4.39 which is still a very good towing and performance ratio for the gassers. I use this online calculator to figure tires size effects on gear ratios. 4Lo.com :: Tire Size Change, New Gear Ratio Calculator
Just remember that if you have a PSD the RPM range is only about half of what the gas motors have so gear changes must be very carefully evaluated to avoid revving too high at speed, the gas motors are actually more efficient at slightly higher than stock RPMs.
