As many of you know, my beloved X ended up on its roof so now the process for finding another one is underway. I've always had V-10's so my diesel experience is 0
What is the top end mileage ball park that the 6 l turbo diesel can be expected to still be in really good shape--assuming maintenance is all the same.
I know "bulletproofing" would be the most ideal. If cannot find one in such a state, what would you consider to be the most important part (s) to have been replaced?
I'm still good with a V-10 but would be looking around 70-80k mileage on it
If you don't tow, stick with the V10, one of Ford's Most reliable engines, but if you are going diesel after 125k you maybe replacing front end parts. Someone posted a few Excursions from utah, 6 years ago when i bought mine it took a year to find a 1 owner with 60k on the clock.
I just bought a 05 6oh and I'm having to replace ball joints and sway bar links. I loved my first 6oh and have regretted getting rid of it. I had 0 problems with and will do small upgrades to the engine..ie egr delete. But 6ohs like to get out and run, and not babied.
Be sure to scour the Sacramento and reno craigslist, due to the large urban population in proximity to the mountains they were a popular vehicle in this area.

Thanks. Unfortunately it is RWD and I'm trying to stay reasonably close to 100K
Found one in Sacramento Saturday. Gone yesterday but I didn't have a good feel for the dealer as he put positive comments in his reviews after negative ones and didn't identify himself--2005 PSD 61K Metallic Blue EB 4WD and wanted 20,400. Followinf one on eBay-it would be perfect if the price doesn't get crazy---so I'll be watching it
eBay vehicle auctions are not binding contracts, they are just a way to market your vehicle for sellers.
Many of the vehicles you see that get bids don't actually sell and the dealers just relisted them over and over and over until somebody actually buys it.
I MAY END AUCTION AT ANYTIME SINCE THIS VEHICLE IS FOR SALE LOCALLY !
He does not have a BIN option on the ebay listing, if he does not get the $29,900 he is "asking" for he will just pull the listing.
I can't believe this is not a violation of ebay protocol.
I can believe anything anymore. Good thinking Shepherd about going north.
I'm fine with a 6L turbodiesel--in fact-hedging that way. The eBay deal-I just put in the max that I would pay and be happy to force some bids so either someone will go over it early and not waste my time or I find something else cheaper and retract my bid. With a diesel, I'd just like to know its bulletproofed or close to it since I don't know much about diesels. Don't want to find myself at the diesel repair shop 70 miles away.
