Under the knife....again
I took these panels off the truck to just re-apply some high build primer because in doing the "shaping" process I found a few "lows" so now let it flash and dry then back to more sanding

yes in the "Spirit of a L.B.B" I am doing this at home...
I finally got the bed panels where I want them to be..."flat" It took a while...between the fenders, bed rails, tailgate and head board, close to 80+ hrs of block shaping. med sanding and fine dry sanding, I started with 150 then 240 320 and a 400 dry, I did need to re-apply a few coats of high build primer/filler to get to this point,
Now it is on to the front, I am currently blocking the front fenders, and am down to 320 when I took these pictures,
not quite done chasing the style lines on this fender
so on to the next set of pieces to be sanded
ready for wet sanding after only 24 + hrs shaping re-priming and re-sanding
step braces ready for wet sanding
oops still needs a little more blocking by the edge before done
I am just hoping for that 5' paint job....If I'm lucky...plus It has to be straight and flat for a Metallic paint .
I would not say "that doing a fleet side would have been easier" then a flair side...not so many intricate stamped pieces of sheet metal to have to work with...
If anything, this has DEFINITELY been a learning experience, not only in body work, but in patience and perseverance...
let you in on a little secret....I do need to remind myself of the "END" result by lookin at the "Before" pictures.....

Everything from the bed forward is quite nice on my truck. I did my very best on the bed, but the dents are still there. I was unable to get those long, flat expanses of steel to become truly flat. It is pretty rumply, and I was too inexperienced to know how to get the waves out.
Yours is gonna be a stunner!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
you ever hear the term "There's A Fly in the ointment?"
or "Waiter, there is a fly in my soup"
well just to show you a more interesting moment in doing this L.B.B...
zoom in
I didn't see my "fly" unit I was blocking this fender down...

so .... I sanded past my "fly"...and needed to re-apply another coat of primer

(he looked fossilized in primer)
