I have heard horror stories about the block heater shorting out and catching the truck on fire. Were those maybe blanket/wrap around style block heaters rather than ours that are built into the motor??
That was a great idea! Just found another mod to add to the list. I wonder if I could use one of the plugs like they have on fire trucks that ejects the cord as soon as you start the truck. Probably cost a lot more than the marine one, but I like things like that.....

It's a simple mod to do. I had a thread about it when I installed mine last year.
Hi all, I have a 2000 F-350 (7.3) with the original block heater. About 2 years ago I replaced the plug since it stopped working. I haven't tested the ohms on the plug, but I was wondering if it trips the GFI (I tried 2 separate circuits) does this indicate a bad heater or should I try replacing the plug again?
