So, I know we see these theads a lot, but you folks always seem to enjoy spending other peoples money :-P I thought I'd get some advice to make sure I haven't missed anything.
Budget is around $2,500 and I'd like to be somewhere around the 300HP/650ft-lbs mark (rear-wheel) Truck currently only has a decent exhaust (noise before power ).
I'm thinking Jim's stage 1s, decent tunes (recommendations welcome), 6.0 intercooler (have), upgrade to SD UVCH and plugs, SD plenums, and SD spyder (have).
For now, I'm planning to keep the stock mechanical fuel pump (e-fuel when this b*stard dies again). I'll probably do 17 deg HPOP soon. If I'm not 100% happy with this, I'm open to S366 or 475 turbo swaps later on (with the e-fuel).
All I do is tow and haul with the girl. I'd like to be able to get out of my own way when I'm grossing 20K+ on the interstate. That's why I'm not wanting race-truck power.
Would e-fuel/hpop + tunes on stock injectors deliver much of a performance upgrade? Or should I just plan on poneying up for everything?
Thanks for the inputs.
Since you tow the way you do, I would go with Stage one injectors, S366 turbo, HPOP, e-fuel, IC, head studs and valve springs, and a chip. That is gonna give you a proven solid towing set up with plenty of power and still be able to manage EGTs. A lot of these guys are using the Hydra chips now because you can just buy the tunes from several different tuners, have then emailed to you, and load them on the chip yourself. This gives you the option of trying out several different tunes from different tuners so you can find the ones that work the best for you. I think they can hold something like 17 tunes.
I think what Aaron meant was, if you are doing this in steps, then do the e-fuel and HPOP first.

Yes IMO it's like building a house. You need a good foundation. When I did them I could tell a difference. I picked up 10 lbs of boost. My fuel pressure would drop from 75@ idle to 30 on a hard wot pull. Mt hpop was prob on its last leg as well. It all depends on your truck but I felt that with exh ,intake, chip for mostly stock it ran well.
Made 200hp and 365 tq at the wheels on a very historically stingy dyno.
