I have 170k on the truck, engine was replaced at 137k along with a new starter. Truck cranks strong but no start. About a month ago I had a remote start installed. It has worked fine. Still cycles through and attempts to start but not starting the engine. Key start gets the same response so I don't think it is the remote. So how long should I expect the fuel pump to last in this truck? It is mine since it was born. Has to be fuel or spark, right?
We just survived the coldest weather it has seen parked over the weekend, started fine yesterday, this morning and today at noon.
Already hit the fuel safety reset in front of the passenger side fuse panel. No help. I can't tell if the pump is running prior to turning the starter. There's a loud street light over it and I am not accustomed to hearing it anyway. After 12 years you would figure I would, but no.
one common problem on this truck is the fuel pressure regulator. This is a small black box that is bolted to the frame in front of the rear axle, on drivers side... left of the spare tire. Should have a small wire harness going to it. This is what tells the fuel pump to run , or stop. Salt spray can get on the regulator and rot a hole in the backside against the frame. If you cant hear the pump turn over, you might take the two small bolts out of the regulator, pull it down, and look it over.
It's called Fuel Pump Drive Module not Fuel Pressure Regular. Lower you're spare tire and you will see on the left side of the cross member frame bar a little black box and wire harness connected to it. Ford has a updated version of this part!
Great advice, guys! Thanks! I will get a look at this before having it towed. I hope I can get the spare out. It's probably rusted in there pretty good.
Can anyone tell me if the bolts are easy to get a socket onto them? I have a socket set in the truck and I hope to get it done with that.
Up there in road salt land these modules bear watching. I don't have to drive my truck at all so I never take it out until any road salt is washed away. I also spray WD-40 under the truck on anything with wires to it. It has worked so far.
