I won't bore you with the details or my spreadsheets, but a SUV was considered for a while. The wife would actually prefer one. The long list of "if-then" considerations is pointing me to a canopy with a tonneau a close second. It's all about how I want to rig-out my new toy.
onug, classy response, don't see many folks take responsibility for their posts these days...good job!! I would have been tempted with a similar response and good for you for owning it. By the way some great looking tops in this post. Especially like the white KR and silver Lariat tops - both look good. Be sure and post your pics once you have your new top installed.

Will the 2011-2014 caps fit on the 2015+ trucks. I want a cap, but only occasionally (trips to the beach etc) but obviously finding a used cap for the new trucks is hard.
In other words, I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on something that will be on my truck 2 weeks a year.

I like the ARE shells. They fit in such a way that you can still remove/replace the shell if you have a lumber rack (like Rack-it). We've done that with several of our trucks.

Is there any reason you cant bolt the truck cap onto the bed rails? Something about me doesn't trust the clamps alone. I was thinking about adding another 2 clamps but now Im wondering if just bolting it down would be a better option. I have read that the clamps can do quite a bit of damage to the bed rails so drilling holes that can be easily plugged with little caps doesn't bother me. Any thoughts? Thanks

Sorry for the poor quality. The last 2 pics are from a security camera. The truck is a 2017 F250 super Cab and the cap is a LEER 100 XL with Bedrug and electric lock that uses the factory key fob. (the wife likes that part)

We've had shells with clamps, and with bolts. Never had the clamps come loose, or cause damage, but they do come off quicker than bolts (when you need to R&R the shell).

The clamps don't look like anything special, but I've never had a problem. This is my third cap and my Diamondback on a previous truck used the same clamps w/o issue. My F-in-L also has used canopies for decades and never had any problems. I see no reason to drill anything when the clamps work just fine.
