Locking Glove Box, common ???
Just picked up a locking glove box door for my long term CC project. I was surprised to find they are individually keyed. Wondering how common or uncommon this option is ??

They are individually keyed so that you can lock it, & give a parking valet the door & ignition key. Valet can park the truck, but can't use the same key to get to your valuables hidden away in the glove box.
Locking gloveboxes don't seem to be too common, especially with a key that fits.

My father in law's 76 was the first one I've seen with the locking glove box... I saved the latch and key for future installation in my 74.
Edit: in my 74 the ignition and doors are keyed the same... didn't try the glove box key in the door of the 76.

I am sure the round door key fits the glove box also ? I have heard that you can get the ignition key cut to work as a door key also. Ignition one side, door key other.
On my silver 77 the square ignition key is also the door key, and same for my blue 78.....
When I get JY parts like a ignition switch w/key and the door locks, I have also gotten the glove box lock, if it has one.

I have no round key, only square key, fits both doors and ignition (and the glove box lock). I know cars had the round key, but trucks don't I thought ?

I have a locking glove box in my 76. Square key for ignition and doors. And a round key for the glovebox. For a long time my glovebox latch didn't work, and I tried finding a replacment locking latch. I couldn't find one. Ended up fixing mine..

So some key info. The square key, or primary key is used for the ignition and door locks. The round key, or secondary key is used for storage area's, such as glovebox, locking consoles (fullsize bronco) and trunks on cars. There are some random years that the round key works the doors, but if I remember right, that was in the eighties. Also, square key and round key have opposite profiles, so they won't fit in place of each other.

Thanks to ranger 429: Here are the differences between these models. I also have found out that for the 78/79 Bronco it was available as a Custom or Ranger XLT model only. They did not offer the Ranger package only on the Bronco.
Custom:
Prettymuch your stripped down version although it could have been orderedwith just about any individual option you wanted to put on it. ACustom model included: low back bucket seats, vinyl floor mat for thefront only, 25 gallon gas tank, manual steering, 4 speed trans withthe 351 motor and the 205 case.
Exteriorfeatures were:
hubcaps, black painted bumpers and the stainless mirrors.
Ranger:
Notoffered on the Bronco, only available in the F-series lineup. Thoseupgrades were:
The bench seat had a chain mail vinyl seatupholstery, it also included a color matching vinyl floormat,sunvisors, seat back covers in the regular cab model and whiteheadliner with chrome trim.
RangerXLT:
Thefront seat used a combination of cloth and vinyl, insulated woodgraindoor panels, carpeted flooring, woodgrain around instrument cluster,passenger dash and the glove box, woodtone on the steering wheel hornbutton, chrome trim around taillights and halogen headlights. The XLTalso got the body side trim.
Exterior:
Chromebumpers, chrome molding around the windshield and side windows in thetop, chrome molding around the drip rail by door, chrome wheel welllip molding, rear T-gate chrome pieces, and the body sidetrim.

Thispackage included a heavy duty radiator, external oil cooler, sevenlead trailer harness, heavy duty turn signal flasher and the TrailerSpecial emblem on the T-gate.
Heavy duty trailer towingpackage:
Good for towing up to 6,000lbs.
This packageincluded a heavy duty alternator, heavy duty battery, HD rear shocks,bigger radiator, rear sway bar, swing out recreational mirrors, ampmeter, oil pressure gauge, HD front springs, external oil cooler andthe Trailer Special emblem on the T-gate.
