I am looking to get back into another Excursion. I have missed and regretted selling the one had. Going to look at a 2005 Eddie Bauer with a 6.0 diesel in it. This will be my first attempt with a 6.0 and to be honest I am a little nervous. I am going to stop and buy a Scan gauge on the way and am also taking my code scanner with me. I have been reading the forums here for about 4 hours tonight and printed a bunch of stuff off for reference when I look at it. I will update after I see it tomorrow and let you all know the outcome.
I already had one of the best ones around. It was so nice that I never wanted to take it out when the weather was bad. It was a 2001 Limited 7.3 with only 25,000 on it and garage kept and never driven in rain or snow. It still had the plastic on the carpet when I bought it and the back seat had never been sat in. Still kicking myself in the butt for getting rid of it but I did make out well money wise and it sold quick.
The "first attempt" was me going to look at a 6.0 part. Truck is a one owner with about 140,000 on it and the Carfax looks like it was serviced at the dealer pretty regularly. I am not to afraid of Ball Joints and stuff like that but dont want to have to put a bunch in it to make it bulletproof either. I have owned and worked on several diesels but looking on the Bulletproof website you can get into some money pretty quick.
No luck for me today guys. The pictures they had on the Excursion looked so much better than what I seen when I got there. No documentation on the motor but salesman knew that it was not studded or EGR delete. The interior was really dirty and you could see where they shampooed the carpet but didnt get everywhere. Rear bumper had some pretty good rust going on under the paint. There was still crumbs in the door pockets and it had that not so fresh smell inside. They wanted 20,700 for the truck and when I asked how negotiable the price was he said maybe a couple of hundred at the most. 2 1/2 hours up and 10 minutes to look at it and another 2 1/2 back to home.
I may go look at a 2002 V10 tomorrow for about 1/2 of what they wanted for 6.0 . Have never drove or messed with a V10 model. On this one he said he recently had the ball joints done and the exhaust manifold bolts done.
I'd keep an eye out for a 7.3 4x4 if it were me. Spent 8 months looking for my perfect ex and 5 1/2 years looking for my f-250. Wasn't settling for a gasser or 6.0. Having already owned a 6.0 nightmare I wouldn't take one if it was free.
I live in Maryland but close to Delaware and Pennsylvania area. I dont mind traveling a little bit to get or look at something nice but I was flat out mislead today.

It's amazing how much these trucks have increased in price. I purchased my ex with 60,000 miles on it in show room new condition 8 years ago for $21,000. I can't find one anywhere in as nice of condition as mine with similar miles (220,000) for under $18,000 with black exterior color. If your looking for a very clean one get ready to pay some big bucks for it. But they are out there. If you don't mind traveling, my past research I did while looking for an ex led me to Texas, Arizona, and California have the cleanest ex's. I bought mine in Santa Barbra California sight unseen. Of course I asked the owner to send me pictures of everything.

We are pretty close to the PA/DE line here, I can keep an eye on the lists for you if you'd like.
Where in MD are you, we have spent a lot of time floating around the Upper Bay and many of the towns on the water.
The V-10 is an awesome motor but only if you like super reliability and cheap maintenance.
I live on the Eastern Shore near a little town called Denton. Yes, please keep an eye open for me. I think I have searched the entire internet tonight looking at Excursions....
