WE3Z,
I was just reading your thread on the header install. Seemed liked it pretty good. The price of them headers will defiantly get to the wallet quick...
I do have a lift at my house and would be comfortable tackling that type of job.

That price is quite a bit out of my range but does look good.
Yes, Those Banks headers are pricey, but they are really top quality and I didn't want to do that job twice.
They do provide just enough extra performance to notice in daily driving but they really shine when we tow our 11,000 TT. Having the exhaust freed up with them makes a decent power increase when under high load situations. Along those same performance lines the V-10 responds very well to a good set of custom tunes, 5Star tuning are the go-to guys around here for the tunes. These tunes will also make the transmission perform much better than stock too!

Do you mind sharing what kind of fuel mileage you get with the way your truck is set up now around town and not towing? Does the tune help with that also? Fuel mileage is not a show stopper for me as this is weekend vehicle and not a daily driver. I currently have a Dodge Crew cab with the Hemi that is SUPPOSED to get 23 MPG but even on my 65 mile commute to work mostly flat I have yet to get over 18. I want to get rid of the Dodge to get the extra seating that the Excursion will provide. I also do occasionally tow a large Popup camper nothing even close to your camper.

I hate to admit it (cause I'm a die hard only blue oval guy) the 2013 and up hemi just shy of 400 hp is one impressive truck. Fastest pickup I've ever driven. Rented one for a 1500 mile road trip recently. That thing is a rocket ship. But the gas mileage was pretty bad.
Our Ex now serves as our dedicated tow rig with very few unloaded miles, however back in Sept I did drive it down to Savannah GA to pick up a car. On the way down I set the CC at 65 MPH and got a hand calculated 13.5 MPG, towing the Geo Metro home on a UHaul dolly I got 12.75 at the same speed. Towing the TT we see between 8 and 9.25 MPG on trips which are mostly all highway. Back before I did any mods it used to get 13/14 MPG with mixed city(suburbs)/highway daily driving and 15/15.5 pure highway unloaded.
The current setup of a 4" lift, 35.28" tires, 4.88 gears, Banks headers and custom tunes has reduced the unloaded mileage by about the same as the gains it has provided while towing. We used to get 6 to 7.5 MPG towing the old 9,500lb toyhauler.
I use the 87 Octane Economy Tune for most all unloaded miles and for towing on mostly flat towing trips I load the 87 Performance Tune, if the route has a lot of grades I'll use the 89 Performance Tune.
I am not 100% stuck on one brand or another. I generally do tend to go with the Dodge trucks because of the Cummins diesel. My dodge is a 2014 Crew cab and runs really well and fast. It rides super nice and has been a great truck only and it only has 20 K on it. It has a bench seat up front for a grand total of 6 people. There is 4 in my family plus a German Shepard that can easily take up 2 spots I run out of room quick. I also end up with a lot of hair from the dog where we sit. With the Excursion the dog can go in the back.
Yep, And I log every drop of gas and mile traveled with all data hand calculated. I started doing it that way to document the various mods I have made and now I just keep doing it with both my Ex and Metro daily driver that has gotten 62 MPG mixed city/highway in the Summer.
I use the Fuelly App to track all the MPG's on my vehicles. I have a 2013 Passat that gives me a good 45-47 MPG on my commute. You have to tell me about this Metro getting you 60+ on your commute....

I know the feeling all to well with a pickup. But I always needed a pickup for one reason or another. That's why I always had a ranger. They are cheap enough to buy as a second vehicle that has a bed for hauling.
I was thinking the same thing. It is a sharp looking Excursion also.
Thanks, I've done a fair amount of work to it and now I keep it off the road during the salt season to keep it as nice as possible for as long as I can, I need it to hang around till I retire and move up to a Class A RV. (Another 8 to 10 years....)

62 mpg!?!?! Holy cow that's amazing. My clown car (2009 Chevy aveo) best mpg ever was 41 mpg on a road trip.
