'02 V-10 4X4 Limited 119k miles $9200 Just got back from driving and looking this one. Not a bad truck at all. Did have one little area of what appeared to be rust by the rear taillight and Black Exterior. I would prefer not to have Black. 2002 Ford Excursion, Limited V10 4x4 119k miles
'05 6.0 4X4 Limited No mileage listed $10,000 (if this isn't a scam it looks decent from the single picture....) Pretty sure this is a scam same truck as below but different area. 05 excursion limited diesel powerstoke v8
'02 V-10 4X2 XLT 80k miles $11,500 Emailed this guy yesterday. Got back with me last night but it is only 4X2. Would prefer 4X4 for sure but this one looks really clean FORD EXCURSION 2002 SUPER CLEAN
'05 6.0 4X4 Eddie Bauer 146k miles $20,700 This is the one that got me yesterday... Extremely dirty inside, rusty rear bumper, dented front bumper, no motor work completed and could only drop a couple hundred at most from the price. Still a little pissed about this one.... 2005 FORD EXCURSION EDDIE BAUER
And then this one, an '03 6.0 with issues at 160k miles for $7500 Ford excursion 2003
Thanks for all the links. I really appreciate it. I hope to find something here soon and the good thing is I am not really in a big hurry.
When looking at the V10 models is there any advantage to getting a later model over the earlier model? In other words did the V10 motors change much from 2000 to 2005?

The v-10's didn't change to my knowledge in the excursions. In 2005 for the super duty they went to 3v and increased power output from 310 hp to 362 hp. Made quite a difference. The ford uhaul trucks with the v10 are an absolute blast to drive when our box trucks break down. The sound of that v10 running threw the gears is music to my ears. Always drive them like I stole it. Lol
Well it looks a lot like blocks up front but I can't really tell from the pictures. I don't remember Rockwells having a raised spring perch. The 6.72 axle ratio should make up for the 53" tires quite nicely though...
Thanks that is good info to have? How about the exhaust manifold bolts? What is the deal with them?
As far as I know those remained constant throughout the Excursion line. I'm not super well versed on the 6.8, but I believe the exhaust bolts can be prone to fracturing and breaking. It's not uncommon to have someone post up about an exhaust leak and their fu***** bolts being snapped off in the head.
We have 1 v10 f550 4x4 crew cab cc with 12 foot flatbed that has 210,000 plus miles of hard abuse with little to no maintainence .(the boss doesn't believe in maintaining trucks, just fix it when it breaks) oil changes 15-30k mile intervals he doesn't care. The truck is on its original motor that runs fantastic but 2nd transmission and 2nd trasfer case. The motor has never been touched. Original spark plugs, coils, etc. great motor in my opinion. Just not for me. I prefer the 7.3.

The one I looked at today had the bolts replaced. The owner told me the first quote was for a little over 2 grand. Had a mechanic friend tell me that it is a crazy job to do. You have to remove the inner fenders or something like that. Sounds like it is comparable to do headstuds in a 6.0!!!!!!

The heads were changed in mid year '02 to add the additional spark plug threads. Either version needs to have the plug change procedure followed correctly to avoid plug blowout, but the earlier design is more finicky. But not really a deal breaker, just make sure they are properly torqued. Timecert inserts will fix a blown out plug hole better than new.
All modular motors have issues with the exhaust manifold studs, these are a very good bargaining chip to use while shopping for an EX, be sure to point out any missing ones and use them to your advantage. The repair isn't too bad, I had two broken studs when I installed my headers, got one out with the MIG welder and a nut but had to drill and Easy-Out the other. Yes, remove the inner fender wells (plastic) and upper shock mounts for much better access. I have a bunch of picture here in my header install thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ll-w-pics.html Two grand for a shop to replace them is a little high, more typically $400 to $800 but definitely do-able at home.
As was already said, the Ex never saw the 3 valve V-10 so they are all the 2V backed by the 4R100 trans. They came with either the 3.73 or 4.30 gears from the factory, The 4.30s will provide better performance and towing grunt without very much difference in MPGs.
My cousin owns a shop and has purchased a bunch of fords with blown out spark plugs and stripped threads. Quick easy fix with helicoils. He made a killing reselling them.
WE3Z,
I was just reading your thread on the header install. Seemed liked it pretty good. The price of them headers will defiantly get to the wallet quick...
I do have a lift at my house and would be comfortable tackling that type of job.

That price is quite a bit out of my range but does look good.
