I rebuilt the rear differential yesterday on my 93 4-150 4x2, and there is a horrid whirring sound happening now whenever I am completely off the throttle.. If there is any pressure on the throttle it is okay.
I'm going to tear it apart again today... any ideas what to look for?
Look at the contact pattern on the "coast " side of the ring gear. Use the white grease to mark it and roll the gears over in both directions. If your backlash is OK, I'll bet your shims are off slightly
