after my truck has been sitting for a while.....like overnight or after work in the evening after i start it it will die 3 or 4 times before it will keep running.......when i start it the 1st time if i gas it and keep the rpm's up for a little bit then take my foot off the gas it'll stay running.......its recently got a complete tune up and oil change......the truck has 150,000 miles on it......or should i be happy this is the only thing wrong?
Pull the codes and test the IAC according to the Haynes manual procedure. That thread has a link to the full code list, and you can get a Haynes at most parts stores for ~$12. You'll also need a multimeter, and Radio Shack & Sears sell them for $10-300. The $10 version will work, but I recommend spending ~$40 for a decent one.
You don't need a code reader for your truck's computer. Read the thread I linked, or the instructions in the Haynes manual. If you put a jumper wire (paperclip) between the 2 connectors, the ENGINE light will flash out the codes just like your "code reader". It's just a black box with an expensive connector, a switch & a light. There's nothing inside it. You're paying for the book that came with it, and that thread has a link to my full code list which most people find to be better than the one that comes with the code readers.
You can certainly use the code reader, but it's not worth it IMO.
