Ok, picked up a CAPA certified tailgate for my '95. I've been led to believe that if I don't coat the inside with bedliner it will rust out like the stocker. The tailgate is EDP primer coated and said its salt spray tested to like 1000 hours. That's really not good enough? And does anybody have pics of coating the lower seam with bedliner? The drain holes seem to be the lowest point; I don't really see what the problem is.
It's easy to see why the stock gate rusted, the inside is not even fully primered.
I just put a new one on my 95' that I got from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard. I would layer it up, I live in the rust belt and I have only painted it. This spring I'm going to use an undercoating to the inside and outside bottom seam where the drain holes are.
One noteworthy thing I noticed about the new gate is the bottom seam lacks seam sealer. Be sure to add that as well to keep water spray from the tires out. The factory gate has seam sealer across the bottom.
I do want to bed line the outside of the gate so I guess I might as well do the inside. I plan on ordering an al's liner kit. Any pics of "filling the bottom"? Heh heh, that came out dirty
