well hi its me again, my tailgate has finally rusted completely through top to bottom. I was wondering, where could i get the best prices for a new tailgate and also if there is any aftermarket equipment to install drains that wont plug to prevent it from happening again.
Its not the drain holes that are the problem. Its the design of the sheet metal seams. When you replace the gate use a coating like Herculiner or have Rhinolinings or Linex do the INSIDE of the gate before you install it in the truck. Some have opted to "oil" the inside of the gate instead but I personally have had two diffferent gates Rhinolined before installation and neither shows any sings of deterioration. the seam where the outer skin and the inner frame of the gate meet is where water collects and its ABOVE the drain holes... thereit stays and will NOT drain but rather stay and start to corroed the metal.
I replaced sevral tailgates on my 88 Bronco. Got them from JC whitney. They were ok, but rusted out quick. (I was living in the land of salt and snow at the time.)
thanks its really sad that thats always the first part to rust away on a bronco them gates aint cheap! lol 750 bucks at graveyard oh well i managed to e-bay one for 200
Hey- I know this is an old thread but... I have put on a soft top (btw, mine totally sucks) and my tail gate was rusted before it went on... my question is this. SInce I really dont need the window anymore (I actually sold the hard top) can I just replace with a gate from an F series pickup?

No I believe lengths are different as well as alignment.
To all others - rhinoling or herculiner is a great idea when installing a new tailgate. When I get a new tailgate for mine the plan is to POR-15 the inside and outside as well as rhino line the inside, outside bottom and inside the cab as well as 4 inches from the bottom on the outside of the tailgate.
