decided to put a 6637 filter on truck. stop by napa told them what filter i need and a thermostat. women behind counter told me that'll be 94.00 dollars. say what! then guy came over messed with computor said be 54.00. still seem high. then I ask for a prefilter sleeve and they ask me if i had a part number. where do y'all buy the prefilter at? or part number.lol Randy
eBay has water resistant one for 19$ Free shipping which I'd recommend with a paper filter. I cut the pipe myself and the filter ran me like 38$ I think.
Not a fan of the 6637. Just me I guess but the noise, the look under the hood looked ghetto, filter rubbing around the battery area, needs a water resistant cover unless you get the filter that is already water resistant (can be ordered but more $$$). And it just seemed like I couldn't get it sealed. Maybe it was but it seemed like fine particles were always in the intake no matter what I did. I switched to the Ford AIS and couldn't be happier.
I ran the 6637 for over 100K miles with the prefilter that Petes daughter used to make before going to the S&B intake I have now. I never had an issue with water or it sealing properly. I got 170+K miles out of my original turbo with it. If you plan ahead and order your filters from Clay at Riff Raff, you can get a couple years worth of them (4) shipped for under $120.
Riffraff is by far the least expensive that I have found, and one of the only ones to offer the filter with the metal screen inside. Like Jason mentioned, I buy them 4 at a time as well for only $31 each shipped.
I lined the area where the filter lies with a piece of polyethylene swiped from a Chevy fender liner, which spared the filter from wearing on that uneven surface. I used the Riffraff filter and cover, and have driven thru blinding rainstorms and never had any water issues. Happy with it - and yes, a bit noisy at times.
same here. never any water issues with the 6637.
i have 3 filter covers for 2 trucks. i switch every 6 months for a clean one and wash the dirty one. i got 50,000 miles out of the last batch of filters, and they were still clean when changed.
