I recently purchased a 97 f-350 with 7.3 power stoke 4x4. I need a new rear driveshaft and nothing is available through ford or aftermarket. I live in Maine and the one driveshaft company in the state needs my old one to build a new one, but I can't be without this vehicle for a week. Any ideas where I can get my hands on one would be appreciated.
The shop is a two day turn around but it is a three hour drive. By the time I remove it one night after work and take it up the next night before they close.....you get the idea. Thanks for the heads up on the junkyards, I'm really surprised no one offers them aftermarket.
They are available aftermarket. Jetmechkc135r already suggested Tom Woods (probably the best known aftermarket driveshaft shop). What you won't necessarily find is a driveshaft "for a '97 F-350". You'll need to specify the 'shaft (what ends, what length, diameter, wall thickness, etc). But a shop like Tom Woods will be able to help you figure out what you need.
Your "local" shop can do the same thing I'm sure. They just might not have the specific knowledge to help you specify the 'shaft without having the old one to work from.
