1989 Ford 460 motor + Carburetor

Hey all, happy new year and hope all of you have an amazing year.

I recently installed a 89 Ford 460 motor which came with fuel injection on my 86 f150. I installed an Edelbrock air intake manifold with a Holley carb. The engine is not breathing well and sucking a lot of air. Mechanic says my heads are not meant for carb and can only work with fuel injection.

1- I have Fast EZ-efi kit that I can install with the stock intake manifold. Will that fix the problem?
2- The mechanic says the only option is to swap the heads and keep the new intake manifold with carb. Thoughts?
3- The truck is driving but just suddenly cuts off. Jim, one of the fellow active forums member was very kind to help me troubleshoot the problem. The fuel option was ruled out because the truck starts right back and has an internal and external fuel pump. Jim stated that the HEI style distributor sucks a lot of power and requires a 30 Amp relay with 10 gauge wire. I did that but even then the truck cuts off. Any idea whats wrong?
4- The radiator is also building a lot of back pressure and throwing all the coolant out. It actually blew the heater hose.

This has been going on for past few days and not able to diagnose the problem. Your experts on this will really helpful.

Cheers,
Prashant

Carb and EFI intake ports do not line up.
Your options are carbed heads, or put the EFI lower intake back on and buy an adapter plate to run a carb or aftermarket throttle body style EFI.

Price Motorsports makes an adapter to use carb on EFI intake. I've used two of them they work great.

Wonderful, I am going that route and installed the original manifold yesterday. Waiting on the CS-460EFI adaptor and should be able getting running soon. Thank you so much. Cheers.

Hi, just ordered the same on Monday. Wish I knew this before, wouldn't have spent $300 on the edelbrock manifold.

Hey there,

I put the stock intake back with the Fast EZ-EFI kit. I got the truck running but not able to bring the idling down. The moment I play around with the distributor and turn the idling down, the engine starts back firing. I have set up the hand held to 750 RPM. But the engine runs totally fine over 1100 RPM.

Any idea what I might be missing?

Cheers,
Prashant
