Just wondering if anyone has replaced their leaf springs and has dealt with a reputable company? I am looking to replace mine but unsure who to purchase from and what size/weight I exactly need. Any recommendations are appreciated.
You'll be glad you did, I can tell you that much. Handling load carrying and braking will be night and day. You're replacing springs on all four corners, correct? Nod your head yes.... edit: '66 has twin I-beam and coils? I'd still prolly replace them?
About 2 weeks prior I used a couple cans of PB blaster on the hardware (hired it out) to make the mechanics job maybe a little easier. They may use the blue wrench on some of them, but.
I have some opinions on who maybe, you should not buy from. Check locally first though. Shipping is not cheap, a (big) truck shop if nearby can make up any leaf spring packs up you want, for a good price.
For my '65 F250, I got the coils from NAPA. The leaves I got from Detroit Spring. They build leaves for just about anything according to factory specs and can send you shackle bolts. Using my old U-bolts for comparison, I got new grade 8 U-bolts, heavy washers and nuts from a local shop.
I used DJM lowering beams in the front. 3 inch drop. I uses lowering shackles in rear. 4 inch drop. The shackles have different bolt holes to give it a 3 inch drop. The photo i posted was a 3 inch drop in the rear. I now have it 4 inches tho. Got it all through summit racing. Came as a package with shocks. Bout 8 hundred.
