For Those Than Installed Android Radios...

..I'm wondering about the install itself.

According to another thread on these forums, there are units that simply replace the factory system as opposed to requiring trimming the dash.

My question is how these attach to the dash itself. Meaning, the factory radio uses the "U" shape tools that released the clips for the radio to slide out. Are these somehow re-used from the old radio? Do you remove the instrument panel surround to install these radios?

Thanks for any info guys!

I just pulled my instrument surround to refinish it when I added an iPod adapter to the factory unit...so while I'm not "afraid" to pull it again...I'm not in a rush to do it, either.

You may need some trimming around the panel where the radio was to get it to fit correctly. They have a sleeve that uses tabs to bend around the hole and secure to the panel. Mine actually locks into place and I have a set of keys similar to the "u" shape bolts that unlocks it and lets it slide out. Most after market radios I have installed use this setup, I would expect the android radios not to be much different than that. I went with a single din vs. a double din...didn't really know about the android radios when I swapped them, plus I didn't want to spend too much money on it.

There are videos on youtube showing the install on an 05.

I put one in the 03 X and it fit pretty well. No dash trimming required.

Nice unit and only $300.

Which one did you get and did you use a separate install kit or did it come with one? Do you have a rear DVD?
