I'm doing a trans service soon on a 99 F-150 (4.2 v-6 with a 4r70w) and want to add a Wix inline filter. Is the rubber section on the cooler return line 3/8"?
I'm also thinking of swapping the stock trans cooler with one from a 2003 7.3 superduty. Any thoughts on this?
The hesitation here is, it's a V6.
Unless you expect to run the transmission to high heat from towing, your efforts won't be very useful in terms of transmission life.
The V6 isn't rated for very heavy towing.
Get under and measure the line diameter to be sure.
I have fluid temperature gage and a 10k lb rated aux filter but no inline filter.
It has little use in the system as long as you inspect the fluid condition often per the use of the truck.
You want to remember, as the inline filters' with accumulation, it also begins to restrict flow and add to the effort to keep the trans wear down due to reduced flow and resulting lower cooling.
The fluid could look great but not circulating as it should.
My truck now has 244,000 miles.
Good luck.
