My winter build this year will be a CL find which is a low miles 1973 Ford 460 with the smog D3VE-A2A heads. For deep snow I'll keep somewhat budget my crankshaft is like new so no polishing needed I'll use the same rods there tough and rated very highly the pistons must go the cam must go the timing gears must go. Get a flat top piston set with all the gaskets and seals and get my cam set with all the lifters and springs easy stuff...now the heads
Port the exhaust and let it breathe I fill them with water after porting so I can measure the flow space I just ported and match each one not porting for 500HP by all means but you look into the port you can see it needs opening up and I like to teardrop the seat with a fin up and out fast is what you want . Each port takes 3-4 hours from start to polish..but I got all winter!
What do you Intend to use for fuel?
What cam are you going to use?
Flat tops are going to put your compression ratio too high by the time you deck the block, and you need to zero deck the block to get quench with D3's.
You will have to get it balanced. The odds of the pistons weighing the same is absolute zero. Get the align bore in the block checked for roundness & taper, same with your rod bores. I wouldn't put any stock in filling the ports like that. Get a hold of Scott over on 460.com. He has a good video he puts out on 460 heads that will get you pointed in the right direction with the D3's
