My auto trans acts up from time to time. It down shifts at the wrong time, won't go into overdrive unless I speed up and let off. It's been fine for weeks and then it will act up. I'm thinking its electronic? My tester is at home, we've been away for 3 months, so I'll check for codes asap. Your thoughts?
That sounds unlikely to me, but if we had the codes I could make a really good guess.
How do I get the codes? I have a scanner but for OB2 only. I thought Auto Zone could scan for me but was told here they they couldn't do it. What do I need for a scanner where can I go. It might also discover why the truck vibrates with a load or acceleration. Taking my foot out of it will stop it from doing so.
Most consumer scan tools will not work on a 1997 7.3 PSD, despite it having the OBD-2 port. You'll either need to get a specialized scan tool, or bring it to a dealer.
