So I know i have a vacuum leak. The engine is throwing codes for egr and my ac switched from defrost to vents when slowing down and taking off. The vacuum reservoir is a little rusty so I should replace it. My question is I have seen the direct replacement. But I have also seen a larger plastic one. Which one is a good one? Any links would help thanks.
Check the white vacuum hose that goes to the blend door actuator on the passenger back side of the engine compartment by the firewall. It will rot and cause your defrost problem. I think everyone who has ever owned one of our trucks has replaced a rotten portion of this hose with a patch.
The EGR code may or may not be related, I don't know, but there are numerous threads here discussing both of these issues if you search.
I have the plastic vacuum reservoir on mine, so I haven't had any issues, but check online places like rockauto.com and they will have what you need.

You don't REALLY need it, I went years after having removed mine. The main item that benefits from that is the brake booster, I'd list heater after that for obvious reasons. You can probably get away with a canister half the volume and if you want to move it, you can. Just make sure you have tight connections or just replace the stock which is easiest. Many options.
