Lift Question

I have an '83 F250 4x4 stock height and I'm running 33" tires right now. Online tire guides say a 4" lift will give me 35's and a 6" can run 36's. I may not understand how this all works but a 2" increase in tire size is only 1" height, so wouldn't I be able to at least gain 4" in tire size with 4" lift gain?

stock - 33
4" - 37

Right? Or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks in advance

The top off the wheel wheel is not where you have problems, you have problems at the bumper, fender, and inner fender. I can't speak specifically for that year 250, I'm more use to the later bronco and 150. But those charts are just a guide, and you can often stuff more tire in there than they say, minor trimming will often allow much larger tires.
