83 lift question

I have an '83 F250 4x4 stock height and I'm running 33" tires right now. Online tire guides say a 4" lift will give me 35's and a 6" can run 36's. I may not understand how this all works but a 2" increase in tire size is only 1" height, so wouldn't I be able to at least gain 4" in tire size with 4" lift gain?

stock - 33
4" - 37

Right? Or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks in advance

You've also got to take into account the front and rear of the wheel-well. When you go to turn, you'll scrub if your don't have enough clearance.

Also, gotta have some allowance for up travel in the suspension.

Depending on how you use the truck, you can push the limits. Like you are now with the stock height and the 33's. I am sure your 33's rub a little bit at full lock in the parking lot or with a big load of firewood on the back. Same with the larger tires with a lift.
