It also was an engine that was designed to burn more oil than that 3.5 you have... 400 miles a quart was my mileage of oil.

Wow! A quart of oil every 400 miles. That sucks.

But there was an engine that was even worse. Back in the 60's chevy made an engine with tephlon rings. That thing burned a quart of oil every 60 miles!!!
thats more 2 stroke than my 4 stroke 2 cylinder kohler

It needs head gaskets and plugged vents... it burned a quart about 30 minutes flat. But how much of that leaked.. hard to say LOL.

all this oil burning puts my 2 stroke kohler to shame Lol

Speaking first about why newer cars suck.........Intakes are made of ABS plastic that SHRINKS and they put knock sensors in the most ridiculousness of places............When ABS shrinks it causes vacuum leaks, coolant loss and oil consumption on engines...Look at the year of your car on an autoperts store...Youll notice Dorman sells Plastic replacements for $85.00............

I had to do all my worktrucks....I literally saved thousands of dollars too.....LOL

Getting to that Koehler.....Blow-by is an indicator of stuck rings...The crank seals look pretty shoddy too........

Fill the whole thing up with diesel with a small amount of brake fluid to try n swell those seals up a lil let it sit overnight while slowly rotating crank every hour....Drain it out ..put new oil with ZDDP additive and it may last a lil longer...Id pull the piston and replace it w/new rings...Its not hard at all...............

As a service to my engines I use silicone spray amd I liberally soak them then just let the grease and dirt run down then the silicone dry...It leaves rubber seals rejuvenated and like new

I rebuild Military equipment as a hobby.........Theres lots of small engines the military uses in all sorts of things.....

I have a ton of 1 cylinder 10hp Yanmar Diesel engines....For generator and hd use nothing beats a 1 cylinder diesel engine hands down.....LOL

I have 4 stroke OHV engines that were built starting 1952 and were in use att the way to 1987 ..Its built exactly like a car engine w oilpump n stuff and has whats called a lifetime sparkplug........LOL

I put them on all my small engine projects ...LOL

I replaced a ford 4.6 modular intake , 2001, because the water outlet nipple to the heater core on the back(or return, idk) disintegrated. SOmehow the pre 2002 revision where the crossover and metal supports for the alternator mounting intake lasted 208k and many years.. but it was the damn coolant loop to give out.. weird.

Wack. I still have it
