I am getting a new full tune up and carb, before i get it i feel like i should try it out
I mean iv used system fuel cleaners in the past, but this should be a little stronger no?
Has any of you guys ever used these in your old rigs?
If so where did you pour it into? I'v heard in the gas tank, pcv lines, even in the oil? I also heard you can even pour it down the carb?
Is this safe to use? If i use it how long should it smoke for?
Any input in this would be appreciated
I used it in a tank of gas, as suggested by a friend of mine in NC that builds racing engines. He said it'd help to clean out the gas lines. I did what he told me to, which was to "drive to the store, buy the seafoam, put it in the gas tank so long as it's over half full, drive to the gas station, fill it up with gas, then drive like normal." I did, and it seemed to help out some. I've heard of it being used in the crank case with the oil, but he said that he always puts it in there right before an oil change, letting the truck idle for about 5 minutes, then draining the oil and seafoam, and putting new oil in. He said that leaving it in the oil could do more damage than good--I don't know about that, just going off what he is telling me.
That's my 2 cents...could be wrong, could be right. I just know that he suggested it to me since my truck had sat at the previous owner's place for about 4 months without being moved and he and I both thought the fuel lines might have some crud in them.
I use it in the fuel now and then, not sure if it helps , but it never hurt anything. I haven't tried using it in the oil yet , sorta waiting to here more reports on it.
i have used it in gas tank with good results. I have heard other members on here mention that if you do use it in the oil that there is a chance that it could really clean the engine out and clog up your oil screen and then theres a chance that it could make you engine leak from the old goo being cleaned out where it otherwise would have not leaked.
worst case scenario i guess would be pulling the engine replacing all the gaskets and cleaning the oil screen.
I havent used it in my truck gas tank but I have used it in my boat for years. It helps keep my outboards running great.
I have used it (like nick said) right before an oil change in my truck and I didnt notice anything different. I do however have an old engine with over 200k miles.
I recently tried it in my fuel tank of my 74 460 and didn't notice any difference. I have researched it on you tube and it looks like if you pour it down the carb, it can make a positive difference. You need to be somewhat careful. You should research it on you tube and you will see what I mean. If I was going to be doing a tune up , carb rebuild, I'd probably give it a shot prior. Good luck and keep us posted of your results!
Hey guys, look what i found on youtube SeaFoam smoke - YouTube
An old dent getting sea foamed
I will be trying this on the weekend, i have decided to let my engine warm up, then just pour some down the carby and let it set for a couple of minutes, then see what will happen
I think thats the only reason why i want to pour it down the carb, to see it smoke
I wonder how it will turn out though, i only have an open y pipe..

Ha ha ,I get you, I remember when i was a teenager way back in the late 50s. We would pour about 1/2 qt. of motor oil in our new glass pack straight though mufflers before installing them so we could burn them out quicker and make them loud. There was lots of smoke ,but we lived out in the farming area , not a subdivision. The police only checked to see if they were installed and had no leaks , no sound checks back then.
I dumped a half can of it into the crankcase of my 351m just to see what it would do. I put 70 or so hard miles on it with it in there. Didnt hear any bad sounds. It may have actually cleared up a lifter tick I had. I planned on changing the motor anyway so It was just an experiment. It did deffinatly develop two new oil leaks.
I started pulling the motor today. So far the inside of the valve covers were really clean as well as the valve springs and such. Tomorrow I'll have the motor out and I'll see what kind of crud made it to the pan.
I would love to see some pictures of under a valve cover or something both before and after using a sea foam treatment. I'm kind of curious as to how well it works.

Ill snap some today. I dont have before shots but I replaced the valve cover gaskets about 1500 miles ago and there was a lot more sludge than there is now.
