i can come up with schematics on ground wiring but need to know where the ground is at just saying on firewall is the only one i can find where is the others at,,, surely there is pics or drawings showing where.....
all of them,,, schematics tell you waht they call them but not where they are,,,i have found one on each fender,,,,one on header next to battery one behind kickpanel on drivers side,,,,,,one on windsheild wiper motor,,,,, the problem i have which has been on going and will come and go,,, turn wipers on speedo goes out and comes back when turned off,,,speedo doesnt work until truck is run for about 10 to 15 miles,,,,runs in limp mode till then....i have done so much on this truck and getting frustrated just thinking of working any more on it......
Well generally, 100 series grounds are under hood, 200 series are in cabin & 300 series are aft, in the trunk or on the rear of the vehicle.
I'd try cleaning the woven body to engine ground strap, it may be on the engine compartment passenger side fire wall. Or try adding another ground jumper here & there to see if things stop acting out, as that'll be a clue that you have a faulty ground.
We only have 12 volts to work with, so it doesn't take much resistance in the ground circuits to cause some strange mischief. Loose, corroded, rusted, broken wire strands, ect, can cause all sorts of strange mischief. Just because a connection looks ok on the surface, doesn't mean its ok under the fastener, or with the wire crimp to a lug, or contact. Put all connections on your suspect list.
The last page in the battery tutorial thread has a link to instructions for using your multimeter to perform under load voltage drop tests on suspect connections, or wire runs, that might be helpful. Let us know what you find.
thats the wiring diagrams i have but dosent tell you where they are mounted on truck,,,,the one i think i am having problem with is the one connected to wipers,,, but i have cleaned and tested the one under hood and run a another ground run to body and motor and starting to think i keep this up will have ground loops start....
On the trial grounds, if you don't get a positive response with them, remove & move on to the next suspect. If you have a auto tranny, I've heard of the TRS acting out & causing all sorts of odd electrical mischief, so maybe it, or its connections belong on your suspect list.
I think you've found & checked the ground points I know about. I'm not sure if the Ford FSM labels ground locations or not, as I don't have one, so maybe a member reading this that does, will chime in & enlighten us. If it does, call your local Library & see if they have a subscription access to the FSM & go make some copies for your records, or trouble shoot. More thoughts for consideration, let us know what you do & find.
The 1999 Ford Ranger EVTM (electrical & vacuum troubleshooting manual) will give you the location of every fuse/relay/connector/splice/ground on the truck complete with arrows showing their exact locations.
I was so impressed with this manual for my 87 Ranger that I also bought the EVTM for my 95 Taurus & 97 Explorer.
