The PCV valve in my '92 5.8 rattles like crazy. I can hear it from 50 feet away with the hood down. At first I thought it was the EGR valve regulator, since they make some vacuum noise, but when I grabbed the PCV valve it felt like a joy buzzer going off in my hand.
What is up with that? It's not stuck, or it wouldn't make any noise at all. Has anybody else had this problem? Is there a valve out there that won't make that hellacious racket? It's really, really loud and really irritating.
My saturn's pcv valve will give me nothing but problems unless I use the factory piece (even a Fram will cause my intake to fill with oil occasionally). Same with another saturn I work on.
I have no idea why someone can't just duplicate whatever the saturn uses, but I pay about $6 at the dealer for the part I can buy aftermarket for $3-4.
So far only one 'dealer' pcv valve was bad, yet every non-dealer has caused problems within an oil change or two.
