Ok, been kinda reading around and decided to ask for the collective thoughts of the group, my truck's transmission seems to make a chattering noise leading me to believe the TC is on its way out, I went and got one from my work (10% off) and its the Dayco brand, I have been reading and seeing about billit (sp?) TC and other things, well sinse im working to build the trans and engine for MAX longevity (not looking for go fast rig or any thing over done) what are some good upgrades? I already have the TC in possession, but do I need to go with a billit TC or will I be ok with this low stall TC? at most i may tow a car or pull out a stuck car during the winter, I am planing to get a JohnWoods valve body for my trans as that (based on what I have read) addresses the weaker points in the transmission. so am I just over concerned for nothing or am I good to go??
Does my plan for getting a John Woods valve body sound like a good plan or am I just over complicating things??? While we have the trans out for the TC replacement what would be good items to hit (while its out?) or to get and make this trans last and survive some towing opperations, I know down the road (when needed) I am planing on the 6.0 trans cooler...
Should of gone with a triple disc tc
As for your tranny it all depends on previous maintnace, one thing I would do is install your new tc, buy a 6.0 transcooler, get the tranny lines that run thru the radiator (yours is an e99 so its by passes the radiator) from a late 2000 truck, change the filter and fill It only with Mercon V, give it a 30k oil change interval, it should last you for a while. Thats unless your tc gives out
well its chattering so bad now I have pulled the trigger with what I could get my hands on now (we had it on the shelf so that is why I went with this one), what would a triple disk do over this one? I don't need an insaine speed monster truck that can pull the sled pull sleds through brick walls while munching a Chevy for dinner...The 6.0 trans cooler is on the list of things to buy, the trans filter was changed when the pump seal was replaced while it was out the last time, so I would think I *should* still be good there??
I am doing the TC as a preemptive strike now before it pukes leaving me with a $4k bill....while I save for all the goodies I want down the road so when I do decide to build some sort of pull monster I can start that process all in one go (can't be giving my Chevy driving friends any clues now can we?)
I went with a torco tc and it has been good for the last 7k. I can tell this tc is good, with my old tc on my hot setting, the tc will make a deep growl while doing wot runsbut with this one you can feel the power is being deliver quicker and fuller at wot. It is a triple disc 1900rpm stall iirc (just like the one from the 6.dohs 5r110w) and the price was right ($250) shipped.
ah, well this truck is not tuned and if I do any "tunes" I will be doing more fuel efficent tunes (not looking to build a go fast rig), if any thing I will make it a mild pull/tow rig, not looking to pull the Space Shuttle (even though on level ground once inertia is over come you could do so...)
so for what I am planing on doing do you think the current TC that I got will be ok? I just have the OEM stock from Ford tune in it now...
