My torque converter is toast.I was hoping to get some opinions on what I should replace it with. Also I want to go to the 6.0 cooler ans was wondering who had the best price and opinions on getting a used one. Also shoul I change the lines as well I had a fair amount of metal in the fluid when i was checking the outflow from the cooler in the fluid I collected,do I have to worry about this metal in my transmission.I know very little in the area of transmissions. thanks John
I would drop the pan and check the trans. Hopefully the filter pick it up.How many miles on that early 99. People have had bad luck with these trans. My e99 lasted 130,000 miles but I have family that have put in three trans in that time. If your high mileage I'd drop the trans to be safe. Other wise you mit toast your new convertor. Good luck on which ever way you go and post up how it works.

The cheap one. I wouldn't guess that this trans is in for much longer a life. Probably on borrowed time anyways.
Give Brian's Truck Shop a call and hold for Brian. He is very hard to get a hold of via email or messages. He usually has 4 or 5 stickies for people to get back to whenever he takes a break. Even if you buy nothing from him, he will still get you somewhere. If there is an easier fix, he will give it to you. He doesn't upsell you. I personally know that he talked me out of a TC when I even had a weird idea of it because the truck was older. Next month, the trans died.
I think you are going to have to rebuild this trans so the question is what you are going to do with it?
if you can afford the ford heavy duty reman I recommend that route. I put one my my 02 f550 service truck that drives around @ 19k lbs and it has been great
