Can anyone explain or maybe post a picture of how to properly install the electrical ground for the 400 engine?
I'm working through a number of various electrical issues and I want to be able to confirm that I have this right. The only braided strap I see is bolted near the top of the back of the engine bay/the firewall on the passenger side and is attached to the hood.
I'm also looking for a photo/clear description of the proper way to ground the steering column. It's a 4x4 auto transmission. After rebuilding the top of the streering column and installing a new turn signal switch and wheel, the horn only works if I clip a jumper from the column to the engine bay somewhere. I'd like to get this permanently installed the right way.
When I added more grounds to my 79, I used heavy battery cable with an open eyelet at each end. One to the engine block, the other end to the frame. I did also wire brush both places to help with get a good connection.
The firewall to engine is really important. I forgot to reconnect it after rearranging some vacuum and electrical harnesses and the electric fuel pump would cycle when I turned on the headlights!
In addition to the stock grounds, these are general Recommendations:
Cab to frame
Bed to frame
Core support to frame
Hood to cab
Inner fenders to frame
Battery to frame
