I have forgot where the engine to frame ground was originally located. 55' 6 volt, 239. I've looked through 100's of my pictures and cannot find a one. Do any of you guys have a picture or good description of where it is located. Thanks , Dave
What does the original ground strap look like? Cable, braided strap, etc...
I am sure the Abe can give you the answer right off the top of his head...I am more a functional guy and would put multiple ground straps in just to make sure that all bases are covered. Nothing more bothersome than a poor ground.
Charlie..... Thanks. Here it is off the top of my head. There is a braided strap from the driver's side head to the firewall near the accelerator linkage bolt. I have pictures but they are on the computer and the wife is on that now. I'm using my tablet. I don't think there is an engine to frame ground.
Found one:
Is this the ground strap you mean? The head is off but you can see the strap attached to the firewall. The other end is attached to a bolt that I think is the temp sender.....

I know which one you are talking about there Abe, but I have 4 cables that come off of my truck. None of them were braided. I have seen those in the catalogs though. Here are the four I have. The long one(36") (+) goes from battery to solenoid. The medium on 24" (+) goes from solenoid to starter. Sort one (12") (-) goes from battery to frame at battery box. The fourth one, 12" with eyelets on each end, is the one in question.
Dave my truck appears to be pretty original. I just cleaned all of those grounds and I think that 4th cable goes from the frame to one of the three bolts on the starter. That's how mine is set up anyway.

Thanks, that makes since, and would sure work. I just bugs me that my memory fails me I do like picture, so if it is ever convenient throw one on here.
I can check my trucks tomorrow if you don't get an answer. You are getting new cables made, aren't you?
Yep, as you can see they are in bad shape. If you get a chance that would be great. I think that little one on top that you shared, is to ground the cab only. Otherwise the cab would have no good grounding since it sits on only 4 rubber cab mounts.
I don't seem to have a good picture of my starter and how it is hooked up. To get new cables, I went to a local big truck shop and they made some out of 00 gauge while I waited. Here are two of the four.
I just took my old ones in and they made new ones to match the length. My battery cables were really small, someone just used 12v cables for that at one point.
I have bought a cable for cab to frame ground, but I have not installed it. Anyone know of a good place to hook that up?
