air intake

The "Gotts Mod" is the cheapest way that actually accomplishes anything .... and it's what I would have done had the original owner of my truck not already spent good $$$ on the True Flow 20502 air intake. Shortly after I bought the truck in 2009, I came across a discarded OEM complete intake set and swapped it on ..... and very soon swapped back. The OEM has a very restricted looking section in the hose as well as the part that clips in the fender inner wall. The True Flow eliminates both and to me, just "seemed" to have better mid / upper range response but maybe it was just my imagination .... but I will keep it (maybe I just like how it looks right on it?). I do have a tuner and cat back exhaust.

I have done the GOTTS mod as the factory horn does appear restricted. Cant say that it helps mileage or acceleration, but it does seem like it would allow more air into the system.......... that being said, the truck normally runs at 2000 RPM, not 6000 RPM. Factory probably has plenty of air at highway speeds ........ but I still like the mod.
Your "aftermarket" is similar also and at least it still has "cold air inlet" as compared to most of the el-cheap-o unit.

I agree 100% .... would have done Gott's Mod as there is little likely hood I would have spent the then near $300 (there is one at ) the PO spent on that TruFlow setup back in 2008 (
receipt in glove box), but because it does NOT use underhood air like you say, I like it's looks.
