I wouldn't touch a thing if I had a 6 degree splits, but now I have an external oil cooler so I don't have to worry about it anymore anyways...

I've said it before,,, a thorough job costs 3k (at least) in just parts. But to each his own. Fords spec on heads is just that,, a spec. I've never seen uncut heads that are flat. There's close enough,, and there's perfect. We better not mention the guides!!!!

I guess I'm kind of stuck I mean I just hate putting that kind of cabbage in 140 thousand mile problematic engine.although I will say I have owned this truck 5 years in March and haven't had to touch anything until now.

It's only problematic cause you haven't touched it. Diesel is expensive!!! There are those that need a diesel,, and those that want one. It's decision time for you.

You mentioned above about not having issues. There is a laundry list of mandated updates to have an enjoyable ownership. That's all I'm trying to say.

That's either a red flag,,, or a great deal. We charge 2500 labor. We tell customers that we are not a blow n go shop. We also tell them that if price is their major deciding factor,, we are not the shop for them. Last phrase is,, money comes n goes, but a crappy job will last the lifetime of that truck. Not trying to say that the person you are using is sub par. But it's a proven fact that you get what you pay for.

I'm sure this comes across as arrogant,, but if you fix numerous trucks that received the "3500" stud job,, you'd have the same thoughts. I only say that cause there's a couple shops advertising on Craigslist (30 or 40 freakin ads) locally here that I've had in my shop for misc reasons. Reusing parts n hardware,, not doing all the updates,,, heck,, I just had one in that was studded,, and was a stc fitting failure. Wtf!!!!

I haven't had any issues, but I think if you have one of these trucks you have to put regular maintenance things like ball joints, shocks, break pads etc,I also said I just had a heater core and new water pump installed not because it needed it,but because it is a 10 year old truck.
