05 Navigator Dimmer Switch

Hey guys,

Another one for ya. The dimmer switch does nothing for any of the dash lights during the day. And everything is at the dimmest setting, so it makes the radio screen and odometer hard to read. It did make adjustments at night when the headlights kick on. Could this be an issue with the switch? Anyone else experience this? It does turn the overhead lights on when flipped all the way up.

Thank you,

matt

So if you turn the headlights on, the dimmer switch works normally?

The headlights come on automatically, I should check if I manually turn them on. But yes, it the lights are on, the dimmer wheel does its job. Tonight, I turned the headlight switch to off, and again no control over the dimming.

The dimmer switch is only functional when the headlights are on.

Edit, the dash will have no backlighting with the headlights off but the Digital display lights should be at full brightness, Radio and odometer for an example.

Correct, all dashboard lights and lights in switches and so on should be OFF when the headlights are off, regardless if they're in Auto and off or in the Off position. If the Auto feature turns the headlights ON, or if you move the switch to turn on parking lights or headlights, the dashboard lights and switch lights should turn on. As said above, displays such as the Message center, radio display and any other similar indicators should have full brightness when headlights are off.

Good to know, thank you for the replirs. Definitely not full brightness with the headlights off right now. I can barely see the odometer and NAV screen in daylight. The odometer isn't a huge deal, but not would be nice to see buttons on the nav. Any suggestions on what to look for?

With the headlights on in the daytime and the dimmer set all the way bright can you see the odometer or radio vs off?

Edit, personally the first thing I would check is fuses, might not be the problem but cheap and easy.

I will take a look at the fuses tomorrow. I do not believe there was a difference in the brightness during the day with the headlights on. I will double check tomorrow and post back here with the results.
