A while back I changed my manual hubs for the four wheel drive.
Noticed the passenger side manual hub was ate up on the back....spindle nuts were loose..
Fast forward a few months and driver side tire has a little funny lean goin on
I take the hub out and it's broke. Both nuts are loose. Nut retainer was in pieces.
Am I the only one that's had this issue. I had the drive side off to change a axle shaft bearing maybe eight months ago. I bought the socket and tightened the **** out of it.
This time she got a little locktite for some insurance..nothin my blow torch and a new spindle won't fix if issues arise in the future.

Uh... aren't bearings supposed to be torqued to exact preload specs? If you get it too tight, it will rub, get hot and probably cause it to fail.
If I remember right, it's a two-piece lock nut that has a spring inside, you tighten it down and then back it off a couple of 'clicks'; if the nut falls apart on you it needs to be replaced.

It has a nut that you hand tighten, I go until there no play and it has a little drag spinning, then a retaining washer that fits into a slot on the spindle and has a hole for a tit that comes off the first nut, then it has a second nut which holds the retainer in place to lock it.
The nuts have 4 indentions in it. I bought a four prong hub socket and shaved a little off one tit and it fits like a champ. Just an fyi if anyone can't find the right socket
