2010 versus 2011
To me, the extra torque was fun, but not worth the overall MPG loss. I think I remember reading somewhere that a stock 2011-2014 5.0L F-150 will make go from 360hp and 380lb/ft of torque to 375hp and 400lb/ft of torque on E-85. I've also seen it proven on the Dyno that putting 91 octane in the 5.0L vs 87 octane, will increase horsepower by 10 to the rear wheels and about the same for torque.
The 5.0L I saw tested put down about 300hp and 325lb/ft of torque (Rear Wheels) on 87 octane, then with no other modification except a tank full of 91 octane it put down 311hp and 335lb/ft of torque (Rear wheels). It's important to note that this truck was showroom stock, no tunes no nothing. It went to over 350RWHP with a 91 performance tune.
But back on topic of opinions of these engines...Well, I own a 2011 F-150 FX4 Supercab 5.0L, and so far it's been fantastic. It's plenty powerful. The 5.4L makes it's peak torque of 365lb/ft at a little lower RPM than the 5.0L makes it's peak of 380lb/ft, however having experience with both of these engines, I can definitively say the 5.0L will absolutely destroy the 5.4L in every performance bracket. The only issue so to speak I've had with my truck (which I ordered from the factory, and currently has just over 40,000 miles on it) Is the battery for some inexplicable reason started losing charge around 14,000 miles...It was replaced under warranty no problem, and has never been an issue since.
On the topic of the other trucks mentioned here. I don't have a lot of experience with the Ecoboost, I've driven a few of them, ranging from a 2011 model, a 2014 model and a new 2015 model. I will say that it makes intoxicating torque, however, I'm not a fan of the V6 hum. I prefer V8 growl, which is one of the reason's I've got a 5.0L parked in my driveway and not an Ecoboost. To me the Ecoboost only really shines greatly over the 5.0L when towing. Otherwise, hauling light loads or driving around unloaded, I personally don't feel much if any difference between Ecoboost trucks and my 5.0L. And that's not to say the 5.0L is a poor engine for towing. I hardly ever tow honestly, but I did once tow a trailer loaded with 3 ATV's and a tool box on it, total weight was around 7000lbs. My 5.0L had absolutely no issue with this and never felt starved for power.
I have the least experience with the 6.2L. I've test driven a couple. One F-150 and one F-250, both 4X4s The F-150 model was an absolute monster, and had no issues leaving two strips of smoldering rubber on the pavement. The F-250 was a little sluggish by comparison to the lighter more nimble F-150, but nonetheless it was an impressive improvement in power over the outgoing 5.4L.
And, be damned, a 2010 FX4 with 108K miles is for sale locally for $18,995 and it has everything I want. Except its a 2010. And there's another, 2 hours away, for $17,500 with 112K miles. Both are loaded as far as options. Can't touch a 2011+ FX4 for anything less than 20K locally and those all have over 100,000 miles.
And it just doesn't feel right to pick up a payment for a truck that's only got 80K less miles than my current truck. I know I'll be getting a lot more truck (and less rust) in the end but it doesn't make it less painful.
Is there a point to my post? No, I guess not. I just want stuff I can't afford and wanted to complain about it. Carry on folks. haha
So... You've got an 'S' code Cougar. What year? I've got a '68 'X' code base Cougar. I've had it since I was 14, my Dad and I restored it and I had it done when I was 16. Still in love with the car to this day haha

The car is a lot of fun. Did you keep yours stock? Mine is very close to original. I hoping to take mine out to Carlisle this year or next year.
Our '69 XR7 390 AT 2nd owner with 77k was getting a refresh this winter. Fresh paint is now on and it's being buffed out. I can't wait take it for a spin when it's done in a few weeks.
