I almost went EB but then I thought down the road 150k miles when all the extra parts on a twin turbo system start to have issues, i figured the 5.0 would have less issues. More power= more problems!
The EB is rock solid. A friend of mine is a service writer at a Ford dealership. He says they see very few EB problems even on high mileage vehicles. I hope Ford comes out with a EB option for the F250. Maybe the new Raptor setup is a test? I would not hesitate to buy another EB vehicle. In 18 months when my wife's SRX lease is up, she'll be looking at an EB Explorer.
Yea tell me about it. I wish it was a ticking 5.0...more like a knock! Of course I didnt hear the noise until I got it home!!! Let me know how the carbon buildup goes on the back of the intake valves that Ford has no answer for. Ha!!
Bruzz... Tell me more. What's up with your 5.0? This is the motor I *think* I want. My father has 40K on his '12 with the 5.0. It sounds like it misses sometimes when it idles but so far has been pretty good.
I just bought this 2012 with 70k miles. At a warm engine idle it has a knock sound low in the engine on the passenger side. When you get the engine over 800rpm it goes away. There is a large thread here named 5.0 knocking-tapping. Some guys are able to get new engines and some get told within spec. Most issues are in the early first two years of the engine generations.

Ya know, I have yet to read about anyone having issues with that. I've read of lots of folks with 100,000+ miles on their trucks and no issues, and one particular guy with 300,000 miles on his 2011 with no engine issues to speak of. I've read about people being concerned with it, but haven't come across where someone actually had a valve sealing issue. Not saying it hasn't happened, or that it won't, but I'm not gonna worry about it.
I've seen more 5.0L failures here on FTE than I have any other engine in memory save for the diesels. It's important to put it in perspective though, as lots of folks have lots of miles on their 5.0L trucks and no issues. Internet forums are where people come to complain about issues, so it's a biased sample size. I'd happily own a 5.0L truck, but my '13 got me addicted to the boosted torque curve. I've had the 5.0L under the hood of a Mustang I used to have, so not much bias here.
I think Ford may have done more testing on the EB to make sure it was right. You could add a oil catch can system to the pvc system to prevent that from happening. It also will help with the lowering of the fuels octane level and prevent all of the extra oil in the combustion chamber. In like you though either engine would work for me!

Hahaha got em. Couldn't have said it better than that.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but MOST of the 5.0L issues are related to early trucks (2011-2012). My '13 is coming up on 100K and it purrs like a kitten. I've read so much about EB problems with condensation, stalling, carbon buildup, turbo failures, etc. that I just couldn't bring myself to pay more money for an engine option that gives less fuel economy and has higher incidence of repair. That didn't seem like a smart decision.
Yea it looks like the early models. My 2012 looks to have the cylinder distortion knocking and using oil. We will see what the dealer says on the 10th. I had the same thought as WXboy with EB having more parts for failures.
I didn't realize this, but the last two years of the 5.4L had 395 lb/ft of torque. WOW. That's more than the 5.0L. I learned something new! I bet those trucks pull HARD with a trailer hooked on.

Look closely at the disclaimer, the 395 ft-lbs is running E85. 365 lb-ft on gasoline.
