Has anyone out there, replaced a 2000, 5.4 with a 2001, 7.3 turbo engine.
We have a complete 450 truck to take parts from. With a rebuilt engine, That's a five speed duly. Putting it in a 2000 excursion, auto. Any parts we are going to need extra. any help thanks. e-mail: sealycycleservice@hotmail.com
Hopefully you mean the 7.3 AND the 5 speed, because the auto trans is different between gassers and diesels. Plus an Excursion with a clutch is bitchin'!
You'll need new springs also, since the 7.3 weighs so much more.
Switching from gas to diesel will take some work. Is the donor a complete truck? If so will have most of the parts needed to do the swap. Like some have said the auto trans won't work. If you use the 450's trans then you have the computer you need. You will have some wiring to work out between the 2. Also the fuel tanks & lines.
Thanks for the reply's, The 450 diesel, We have complete. It has a five speed. We want to put it in 2000 Ford Excursion. That has a gas engine with auto. We want to keep it auto. Do we have to change to a different auto, or can we make the gas engine one work. (Can it be reworked). what is the difference on the rear ends. not going to do any heavy towing, Hope this clears up what we are trying to find out. Thanks Malcolm.
