40-20-40 seat foam

Has anyone used the seat foam from a 99 up in a 94-97 drivers side seat?

Y? What's wrong? There are a few common issues with these. They are easily remidied. Search for Aaron's seat fix or thread by madmatador78 . He documented what we did to his and about half a dozen others seats.

Thanks for the reply fordmaan. Yes I know and have done patch for the drivers side seat but with getting in and out 50 times a day I would like to have real seat foam again. My butt on this seat for 20+ yr. and almost 300,000 was just wondering how much difference there is in the two seat foams. Thought if anyone has done it it would be here.

When my guy did the seats on my Mule, he inserterd some memory foam from a matress he had, and boy ill tell ya they are cumfy, he also removed the lumbar support bracket because the bags were deteriorated, and he put some rubberized paddind on the lumbar. But it failed so I came with an Enginuity of drilling 3 holes on the seat frame on each side and tighten the lumbar support with a string (used for small engine manual starters) think of it like tightening a shoe lace, worked good, ill try to post a pic of the fix.

The back is good. I need new bottom foam. Searched all the forums but have not found anyone that has tried the 99 seat foam in the obs. Can not be a lot of difference.( I would not think)

Well I ordered a 99 40-20-40 drivers side seat foam from ebay for $98. Took my seat out and put the new 99 seat foam in. Had to remove about 4 in. of foam from the rear part and cut off some foam nubs from under the same rear most part. easy to do with a hacksaw blade. With a little push pull and stretch the new foam went in nice and tight. Looks good and sets like new. Put about 10 mi on today and seems to work fine. Now I will see how it works in the long run. ( the old foam is shot after 20+ years)

Seriously? You spent all that money on a new seat foam just to cut it up?

Why didn't you go to your local upholsterer and get generic foam for next to nothing and cut it?

Is this a specific kind of wire I can purchase (say at an industrial hardware store?) Anyone know the name? Is it spring steel wire or anything of the like? I was almost debating purchasing a junkyard seat just to get the springs.

Anyhow, thanks for posting the write up. I've been needing to RE-redo my seats for a while now. It feels as though I'm leaning towards the door and going to fall out and the pass side is well...lets just say I feel bad for the random passenger I may have! ha-ha

junkyard? Whats that? LOL. Seems they're getting harder and harder to find these days let alone finding an f-truck with bucket seats for salvage, or do you mean the internet junkyard known as eBay ? There's literally a salvage yard 2 miles down the street from my house but the owner is such an a** it's not even worth trying. I called a while back for a gear reduction starter for my f-150 and they wanted more for a used starter than it would cost for a rebuilt unit from Advance Auto Parts...and it took them 2 days to get back to me.

Any you-pull-it salvage yards out your way Diesel_Brad worth checking out? I'm just over the border in NJ.

Any of the Harry's u-pull it yards sell complete seats for about $50

Washington Auto salvage in Washington, Capital Auto in Bangor, etc

Also Collis Truck Parts in Northampton is another great source
